Organized in 1935, the Catholic War Veterans are probably the oldest Veterans Service Organization that you've never heard of. One of the aims for this Recruitment Weekend is to let the country know who we are and what we do for veterans of ALL faiths.
We received an Apostolic Blessing from Pope Pius XI in 1935 and a Congressional Charter from President Reagan in 1984. With Posts throughout the country, the CWV and their Auxiliary support Active Duty personnel and Military Chaplains worldwide, and veterans here at home in the United States. Our organization's motto is "For God, For Country, For Home". Posts and Auxiliaries can often be found attending Mass together on Veterans Day, Memorial Day, volunteering in VA Hospitals and supporting parish and veterans activities during the year.
Membership in the Catholic War Veterans is open to baptized Catholics, male or female, who have served on Active Duty for a period of at least 90 days, in the Reserve Component, or National Guard, or are curently on Active Duty in any branch of the US Armed Forces.
Membership in the CWV Auxiliary is open to any baptized Catholic, male or female, related to a veteran within 2 degrees (Grandfather, Grandmother, Mother, Father, Brother, Sister, Uncle, Aunt, Niece, Nephew, Son or Daughter).
